Brush McCoy Ferdinand the Bull Planter based on Disney Cartoon

This is the large version of Ferdinand the Bull by the Brush McCoy Pottery. In 1938 Walt Disney released an animated cartoon about Ferdinand, based on the 1936 book by Munro Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson. A few years later, the Brush McCoy Pottery put out their version of the character as depicted by Disney, in the form of a planter. He is dark brown with lighter brownish yellow ‘spots’. Height: 6¾ in; length: 9 in. There are three (what collectors call) McFlaws: two spots of missing glaze, one on the right horn and another on the tail (see close-up photos), and a shallow 1/8” chip on one foot which was done at the time of manufacture and glazed over at the factory. There are no other chips and no cracks or repairs. This is mold #139, and is unmarked. (Plant not included.)
