A charming and finely executed hand-painted porcelain miniature vase from the Occupied Japan era (circa 1945–1952), this piece reflects Japan’s return to artisanal craftsmanship following World War II. The “Hokuto-Sha” mark identifies one of several smaller post-war studios that revived traditional Imari and Kutani techniques for Western export. Rich cobalt blues, deep persimmon reds, and heavy gilt trim embody the traditional akae-kinrande (red and gold) style of late Meiji and early Showa Imari revival pieces.

These hand-painted designs were made in limited quantities and sold through department stores in the U.S. as decorative novelties and collectibles, often symbolizing Japan’s resilience and return to fine porcelain artistry during Allied occupation.
