Sand is one of the operating materials that every locomotive needs. To increase the friction when starting and braking, especially in difficult weather conditions, sand from the locomotive s sandbox is sprinkled between the wheel and rail via pipes. The sand, as well as coal and water, was refilled in the depots. The Auhagen model is based on a standardised construction that was and still is used, for example in the depots in Berlin-Schneweide and Lutherstadt Wittenberg.The model is intricately detailed. You can choose how to position the storage tank next to the tower. It is connected by a flexible hose.
