Vintage New Zealand Pounamu Hei Tiki Pendant with Silver Clasp
This rare and culturally significant vintage pendant features a traditional Māori Hei Tiki figure, carved from Pounamu (New Zealand Greenstone or Jade). Pounamu is a highly prized and exceptionally tough nephrite jade, considered a taonga (treasure) by the Māori people. The Hei Tiki is an iconic figure often depicted as an ancestor or an embryonic human form, and it is traditionally worn as a talisman to bring good luck, fertility, and protection to the wearer.
This vintage carving is finished with a simple silver clasp or bail. The pendant measures 15/16" with the bail by 1/2" wide.
